Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian National Police (INP) Traffic Corps has been conducting a trial of sending traffic violation tickets via WhatsApp.
Brigadier General Raden Slamet Santoso, the Traffic Corps Director of Law Enforcement, said on Saturday (4/5/2024) that the trial phase aimed at preventing possible abuse of the new method.
At present, traffic violation tickets are sent to the violators via state-owned postal company PT Pos, but scams involving WhatsApp APK format have arisen, posing risks to users' data, he said as reported by antaranews.com.
The official results of this trial would be disclosed on Monday. If successful, the innovation would be implemented nationwide, Chief Slamet added..
The Jakarta Metro Jaya Regional Police Traffic Directorate has introduced the Cakra Presisi System, sending traffic violation tickets via SMS, WhatsApp, and email on the same day as the violation occurred, improving efficiency.
Confirmation letters sent via WhatsApp would include photos of the violation, and violators could verify the evidence on an official website.
The Metro Jaya Police Head of Public Relations Senior Superintendent Ari Syam Indrardi confirmed the safety of WhatsApp notifications, assuring they were not in Android Package Kit (APK) format.
