INP Uncovers Lion Air Employees in Drug Network

Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Two Lion Air employees have been implicated in smuggling drugs from Kuala Namu Airport, North Sumatra, to Jakarta's Soekarno-Hatta Airport on six occasions. 

These employees, working in aircraft lavatory service), facilitated the transportation of methamphetamine and ecstasy, according to Deputy Director of Drug Crimes Investigation Unit at the Indonesian National Police (INP)’s Criminal Investigation Unit Senior Superintendent Arie Ardian on Thursday (18/4/2024).

The investigation began with information about an inter-provincial courier, MRP, who transported drugs from Medan to Jakarta. 

MRP was arrested at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, where authorities seized five kilograms of methamphetamine and 1,841 ecstasy pills.

Further inquiries revealed the involvement of two Lion Air employees, DA and RP, who supplied drugs to MRP.  Former AVSEC officers HF and his wife also aided in the operation. 

Seven suspects were arrested, while three remain at large. 

Lion Air expressed appreciation for the investigation, reiterating its commitment to drug prevention. The terminated employees facilitated six drug shipments over a year, earning Rp 10 million per kilo.
