Investigation Ongoing in Sumatran Elephant's Death Case

Inp.polri.go.id - Pekanbaru.  The Special Crime Investigation Directorate of the Riau Regional Police  have been investigating  the death of a Sumatran elephant at the Tesso Nilo National Park (TNTN) in Riau. "We continue investigating it," said Police Superintendent Nasrudin, the Head of Sub-Directorate IV of the Riau Police Specific Crime Unit,  on Tuesday (19/03). The male elephant, named Rahman, was discovered in a weakened state with its left tusk cut and missing on 10 January 2024. It is strongly suspected that Rahman was poisoned before his tusk was removed, as reported by antaranews.com. Chief Nasrudin said that 12 people have been questioned in connection with this case and tracking dogs have been deployed to the crime scene as part of the investigation process. Police First Inspector Joko Sutrisno, the Head of the Extraordinary Crime Unit at the Directorate of Specific Crime of Riau Police, explained that the tracking dogs awere used to find evidence in the crime scene and its vicinity. "We are conducting an in-depth and scientific crime investigation," he said. Meanwhile, the newly-established For Gajah Rahman Community urged the Riau Police to speed up the investigation,.
