Inp.polri.go.id - Serang. Immigration officers in Serang, Banten, arrested two Iranian citizens for allegedly stealing Rp 4 million (approx. USD 245) from an E-Toll counter in Serang.
The case gained public attention after CCTV footage of the theft by the foreigners, identified as AM (63 and AF (44), went viral on social media.
"Suspect AM pretended to buy an E-Toll stick for Rp 5,000 using a Rp 100,000 note. When the staff was distracted giving change, suspect AM entered the counter and took cash from the safe," said I Gusti Agung Komang Artawan, the Head of Serang Immigration Office, on Thursday (31/7/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.
Suspect AF allegedly acted as a lookout and diverted other employees' attention. The two were arrested at the East Jakarta Immigration Office while attempting to extend their stay permits.
Immigration officials had tracked them to Bali, but they had used false addresses and never checked into listed accommodations. The suspects are likely to face deportation under the Immigration Law.
