Inp.polri.go.id - Bandung.  Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) has officially canceled its plan to launch a Digital-Based Master’s Program in Sharia Economics at Menara Syariah, located in the PIK 2 area, following public backlash.

"We will re-evaluate this collaboration more comprehensively, considering not only education but also social, environmental, and sustainability issues," said ITB Vice Rector A. Rikrik Kusmara on Monday (30/6/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.

While the program itself will continue to be developed as a pioneering initiative in Indonesia, it will be held at existing ITB campuses in Jakarta, Bandung, Jatinangor, or Cirebon.

The plan to join PIK 2’s Menara Syariah—promoted as Southeast Asia’s future hub for Islamic finance—was met with criticism, especially from alumni and students who questioned ITB's involvement in a project many view as controversial.

In response, ITB apologized for the concerns raised and thanked the public for their vigilance. The university reiterated its commitment to being a driver of national progress and to upholding public trust as a leading educational institution.
