Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  Jakarta Archbishop  Ignatius Cardinal Suharyo Hardjoatmodjo called for selfless service and unity among Indonesians at the 2024 Christmas celebrations, urging the nation to embody the spirit of Bethlehem.

Speaking after the Pontifical Mass at Jakarta Cathedral on Wednesday (25/12/2024), he reflected on the theme "Let Us Now Go to Bethlehem," symbolizing a place where leaders prioritize service over personal gain.

Archbishop Suharyo emphasized five pillars of the Church's social teachings: respect for human dignity, pursuit of the common good, solidarity, care for the less fortunate, and environmental stewardship.

He highlighted ongoing challenges, including human trafficking, stunting, and climate change, as areas requiring collective action.

"Indonesia can become a modern-day Bethlehem where leaders and citizens work together for justice, fairness, and the welfare of all," the Archbishop said, as quoted by antaranews.com.

Archbishop Suharyo stressed that fostering these values could reduce societal discord, ensuring a more harmonious future.
