Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Jakarta administration, in partnership with the Jakarta Environment Agency, conducted a citywide lights-off event from 8.30 to 9.30 pm on Saturday (9/11/2024) to boost public awareness of energy conservation and greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction.
Asep Kuswanto, the Head of the Jakarta Environment Agency, explained that this initiative followed Governor Instruction No. 14/2021, which mandates periodic lights-off events to promote energy-saving and carbon reduction efforts.
The event also coincided with the 2024 National Flora and Fauna Day, according to antaranews.com.
The lights-out included government buildings, key landmarks such as City Hall, the National Monument (Monas), and major thoroughfares across all districts, including Sudirman, Thamrin, and Asia Afrika. Numerous private buildings, malls, restaurants, hotels, and apartments also participated.
“This small action contributes to environmental preservation and supports efforts to mitigate climate change,” Asep remarked, urging residents to adopt more sustainable energy practices.
