Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indonesia and China signed two strategic Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) on minerals on Saturday (9/11/2024).

The MoUs, covering green mineral cooperation and broader mineral resource development, were signed by Indonesia’s Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia and China’s Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao, witnessed by Presidents Prabowo and Xi Jinping on Saturday (9/11/2024) at the Great Hall of the People, Beijing.

 President Prabowo Subianto has led his entourage for a state visit in China, which started on Friday to Monday.

Minister Bahlil said that the agreements signal a new phase in Indonesia-China strategic collaboration, emphasizing that this partnership will strengthen sustainable mineral supply chains and significantly drive investment in clean energy. 

“Together, we contribute to achieving global goals for an inclusive energy transition,” he remarked, according to antaranews.com.

The "green mineral" MoU aims to develop Indonesia’s eco-friendly mineral industry, from mining to downstream processing, in line with the two nations' climate commitments. This sector, focused on essential minerals for green industries, supports clean energy initiatives outlined by President Prabowo.

The second MoU, signed with China's National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), targets the development of minerals critical to modern industries, opening opportunities for investment and cooperation across the mineral resource sector.

The partnership will enhance Indonesia-China bilateral relations through the Indonesia-China Energy Forum (ICEF), most recently held in Bali in September 2024, underscoring commitments in oil, gas, coal, electricity, and clean energy development.
