Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Jakarta’s Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) evacuated 524 passengers on Thursday (20/11/2025) after a century-old mahogany tree collapsed onto power and rail infrastructure in South Jakarta, halting operations between Senayan Mastercard Station and ASEAN Station.
The tree fell at 10.27 am on Jalan Sisingamangaraja, in front of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’s Caraka Loka building, damaging structures and electricity systems.
“We prioritize customer safety and evacuation has been completed according to procedures for 524 passengers,” said MRT Corporate Secretary Division Head Rendy Primartantyo, as cited by antaranews.com.
The incident halted eight train sets and forced MRT Jakarta to operate a limited route between Blok M BCA and Lebak Bulus. No casualties were reported, though one car was damaged and roads were temporarily closed.
Despite disruptions, MRT Jakarta refused to discuss compensation for affected passengers, calling the incident a force majeure. Only passengers who had tapped in can request refunds. More than 30 joint personnel continue clearing debris, bringing back normal service later in the afternoon.
