Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Jakarta Metro Jaya Police’s newly formed “Robber Hunting Team” arrested 16 street robbery suspects in Jakarta and surrounding areas during a three-day operation.
“Over three consecutive days, we detained 16 suspects with the support of local residents and neighborhood security posts,” said Metro Jaya Police’s Director of General Crime Investigation Senior Superintendent Iman Imanuddin on Wednesday (20/5/2026), as cited by antaranews.com.
He noted one case involved a child robbed of a phone while filming a bus in Ciputat, South Tangerang.
Police seized weapons, including a firearm, from the suspects. Preliminary investigations revealed economic pressure and drug addiction as motives, with several testing positive for amphetamines.
Authorities credited CCTV integration with Jakarta’s administraion and rapid social media reporting for the swift arrests. The suspects face charges under multiple articles, including aggravated theft, violent theft, and illegal possession of firearms, carrying penalties of up to 15 years in prison.
