Inp.polri.go.id - Surakarta.  Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka confirmed that Indonesia’s 80th Independence Day celebration on 17 August 2025 will take place exclusively at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta due to ongoing construction at the projected new capital, Nusantara (IKN), in East Kalimantan.

“We’re following the President’s directive. IKN is under development,” he told the press on Friday (18/7/2025), referring to President Prabowo Subianto’s instruction delivered via State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi.

Deputy State Secretary Juri Ardiantoro previously said the government is prioritizing IKN’s construction. A small ceremony will be held by the IKN Authority at the new capital. Meanwhile, the official Independence Day logo and theme launch was postponed to Sunday, with a public campaign planned during Jakarta’s Car-Free Day on Jalan Thamrin-Sudirman.
