Inp.polri.go.id -  Sentani.  The Jayapura Regency administration, in collaboration with the Jayapura Police, conducted a dialogue with representatives from the indigenous community, youth leaders, and women in Nimboran District to make sure the success of the upcoming general elections on 14 February 2024. Elphina Situmorang, the Assistant I for General Administration at the Jayapura Regency Secretariat, said the importance of the dialogue to provide understanding to the public and encourage participation in the elections. "Every voice is crucial in determining the future of our nation, and we urge every resident in the Nimboran District not to abstain from voting and to cast their ballots at the polling stations," she said In addition to the election of the President and Vice President, DPD, DPR, and DPRD members, there will be the selection of traditional council members (DPRK) for regencies/cities. Candidates for DPRK must go through the Local Council of Customary Institutions (DAS) with figures capable of representing the aspirations of the people in the respective customary areas. Jayapura Sub-regional Police Chief Superintendent Fredrickus WA Maclarimboen urged district heads and village chiefs to convey to their residents, especially the youth, to abstain from alcohol consumption, particularly in the lead-up to the elections. "Alcoholic beverages can turn a situation that was initially good into chaos, " he said Daniel Mebri, Chairman of the Jayapura Regency General Election Commission (KPU), expressed appreciation for the support from local administration and the Jayapura Police in facilitating the KPU's efforts to educate the public on the electoral process.
