Inp.polri.go.id - Biak Numfor. President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo has addressed the recent development that Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Chief Firli Bahuri has been named as a suspect in an alleged extortion case against former Agriculture Minister Syahrul Yasin Limpo.
During his visit to Biak Numfor regency in Papua on Thursday (23 November), the President stressed the importance of respecting the country's legal processes.
"Respect all legal procedures," he said.
The Jakarta Metropolitan Regional Police officially declared Firli Bahuri a suspect in the extortion case reported by former minister Limpo on Wednesday night (22/11/23).
Senior Superintendent Ade Safri Simanjuntak, Director of Special Criminal Investigation at the Jakarta Police, said that after a thorough review of the case, sufficient evidence was found to designate the KPK Chief as a suspect in a corruption case involving extortion, gratification, gifts or promises related to his position.
The case relates to legal matters at the Ministry of Agriculture from 2020 to 2023.
Firli Bahuri's designation as a suspect was based on Law No. 31/1999 on the Eradication of Corruption Crimes in conjunction with the Criminal Code.
