The Wildlife Unit of the Samapta Directorate of the West Sumatra Regional Police deployed a special search and rescue (SAR) team to conduct a sweeping operation in the flood-affected area. The search operation was conducted on Thursday, September 24, 2026, starting from behind the Regent's Office.

The Head of Public Relations of the West Sumatra Regional Police, Senior Superintendent Susmelawati Rosya, stated that the deployment of K9 (sniffer dogs) was a form of rapid police response to assist in optimal search operations in difficult-to-reach areas.

"The West Sumatra Regional Police continues to optimize all available resources, including deploying the K9 Wildlife Unit, which has special SAR specifications. This step was taken to expedite the sweeping process in the field, especially in areas affected by floodwaters," said Rosya, Thursday (9/24/2026).

In the operation, the West Sumatra Regional Police's Samapta Directorate deployed four experienced personnel, led directly by Hamidi Rahmadhoni. The team was also supported by two special vehicles from the Wildlife Unit and two dogs with reliable SAR specifications.

The Director of Samapta of the West Sumatra Regional Police, Superintendent Andre Anas, added that the presence of trained tracker dogs was crucial to maximizing the effectiveness of the search at the scene.

"We deployed four trained personnel, along with two K9 Herder dogs with SAR specifications, and two special vehicles. The search began from behind the Regent's Office, following the floodwaters. The expertise of these tracker dogs is expected to help track tracks and important clues at the scene more effectively and precisely," added Andre Anas.

As of this writing, the joint team from the West Sumatra Regional Police's Wildlife Unit, Ditsamapta, and related agencies were continuing to conduct intensive field searches, prioritizing personnel safety.
