Inp.polri.go.id - Karawang.  A catastrophic levee breach in Muara Village has forced 3,368 residents to flee their homes as severe flooding continues to ravage Karawang Regency, West Java.

The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) confirmed Monday (2/2/2026)that the failure of the river embankment, triggered by relentless torrential rains, has now impacted a total of 11,924 people across seven districts.

“Evacuation processes and the fulfillment of basic needs for affected residents are our top priorities, alongside expert assessments to accelerate the repair of the breached levee,” said Abdul Muhari, the  BNPB’s Head of Disaster Data and Information, as cited by antaranews.com.

The situation remains critical in Cilamaya Wetan and Telukjambe, where water levels have reached depths of 1.5 meters. Rescue teams are currently utilizing rubber boats to extract stranded families as the flooding enters its eighth day.

Local authorities have confirmed that 15 villages are submerged, with 6,670 houses affected. Joint emergency units remain on-site to manage the displacement centers and monitor structural risks to secondary embankments.
