Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Jakarta administration expanded its Weather Modification Operations (WMO) on Monday (2/2/2026), deploying four flight sorties to mitigate flood risks across the capital.
Managed by the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), the initiative utilized cloud-seeding technology to redistribute precipitation before it reaches vulnerable urban areas. Data collected since 30 January 2026 indicates the operations have reduced local rainfall by approximately 23.85 percent, according to antaranews.com.
“This WMO implementation continues to monitor weather conditions and field evaluation results,” said Isnawa Adji, the Head of BPBD Jakarta, emphasizing that the flights are synchronized with real-time atmospheric dynamics provided by meteorology experts and the Air Force.
Despite the reduction in rainfall, authorities have warned residents to remain vigilant for moderate to heavy storms accompanied by lightning and strong winds.
The BPBD is coordinating closely with the BMKG and TNI AU to optimize the seeding schedule. Jakartans are encouraged to monitor flood maps via the JAKI app and maintain local drainage systems to minimize the risk of localized ponding as the monsoon season peaks.
