The Kenyam Post of the Quick Reaction Forces Command (Kopasgat) Task Force faced another attack from the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) in the mountainous region of Nduga, Papua on Thursday (22/6/23) at around 09.45 Eastern Indonesian Time (WIT). The incident unfolded as two teams from the Kopasgat Task Force were engaged in security operations at the airport.

Police Senior Superintendent Ignatius Benny Ady Prabowo, the Head of Public Relations Division of the Papua Regional Police stated, "While one team was en route to the runway area, they suddenly heard five gunshots originating from the 12 o'clock position of the Airport Guard Post."

Responding promptly, the Kopasgat Task Force personnel retaliated and initiated a pursuit of the KKB group from Nduga.

"In immediate response to the gunshots, the joint Indonesian Military-Indonesian National Police (INP) forces swiftly launched a pursuit operation in the Kwari area, resulting in no casualties," he said.

Although the situation at Kenyam Airport has returned to normal, the joint forces remain on high alert to prevent any potential recurrence of such incidents.

Meanwhile, Police Senior Superintendent Faizal Ramadhani, the Head of Cartenz Peace Operation, suggested, "The suspected perpetrators are believed to be affiliated with the Nduga-based KKB group, aiming to gain attention amid the presence of a new Acting Regent."
