inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) Commissioner Saurlin Siagian said the implementation of the upcoming election requires disaster mitigation.
The Commissioner for Studies and Research explained that the proposal was submitted based on his experience when monitoring the implementation of the 2024 Election in Central Java.
“In Central Java, the election was hit by a flood, and the election organizers are not prepared for that. They did not know whether they would move to another place or not,” said Saurlin on Thursday (1/16/2025).
In addition, he said that the implementation of the 2024 Election, such as in North Sumatra, also did not have disaster mitigation against major floods or landslides, resulting in almost 40 percent of voters being unable to exercise their rights on voting day.
“It seems like we did not have a plan B, like we just let it be and I have seen that too many in many places at that time,” said Saurlin.
Therefore, he concluded that the 2024 Election has no mitigation of disaster situations before or during voting day.
"Well, I think election mitigation in disaster situations is important for the future," said Saurlin
