General Election Commission (KPU) plans for presidential and vice-presidential candidate debate to be held outside Jakarta. “We are discussing the place for the debate, occasionally it was held in Jakarta. Now, there is a suggestion that not all debate should be held in Jakarta,” says KPU member Mochammad Afifuddin on Thursday (11/2/2023). He stated that the plan for the debate to be held in other province is being discussed with each candidate pair delegation team. This is to prevent objections from one of the candidates' teams. “We are discussing the matter and coordinate it with each candidates if there are any objections if the debate held outside Jakarta,” he said. He also ensures that the debate process will be held openly and justly. One of the main factors is by determining moderators for the candidate debate. “The moderator would be a professional and academic who has high integrity, honest, and not biased to one candidate,” said Afif. Afif detailed that the debate will be held five times during campaign period as was stated in KPU regulations regarding campaigns. The number is the same as the 2019 General Election debate.
