inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) appeals the Land Fire Handling Desk to remain alert to August 2025 considering the long dry season in several regions.
Head of BMKG Dwikorita Karnawati explains that the southern part of Sumatra, such as South Sumatra and Lampung, are still in the peak of their dry season until August.
“The majority of Kalimantan has passed its dry season in June-July, however some parts will experience the peak of the dry season in August. Therefore, we still have to remain alert until August,” says the Chief of BMKG on Monday (7/28/2025).
She noted that Riau Province, specifically, will have the lowest rainfall for just about 20-50 millimeters, particularly in the northern and western part of the province. However, it will later be going up drastically to 150 millimeters per 10 days.
Despite increased rainfall, the FFMC/Fine Fuel Moisture Code index indicates that the flammability of the topsoil remains very high and will begin to become significant on July 30, 2025, and then decline after August 3.
Therefore, BMKG emphasized the need for preparedness of ground and air patrol officers, as well as the implementation of aerial water spraying through weather modification operations (OMC) if necessary.
"Ensure there are no more burning activities because the weather conditions are very dry and there is minimal rain, as indicated by the red color on the forecast map," she said.
