Vice Speaker of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR RI), Eddy Soeparno, emphasized the importance of ratifying the New and Renewable Energy Bill (RUU EBT) as a legal umbrella for accelerating the energy transition to renewable energy. This is to support the national economic growth target of 8 percent.

"To achieve 8 percent growth, that growth must be accompanied by sustainability aspects, one of which is the utilization of renewable energy. Therefore, it is crucial for us to immediately have a legal umbrella to accelerate the energy transition process to renewable energy through the ratification of the New and Renewable Energy Law," he said, as reported by RRI's website, Tuesday (August 12, 2025).

He emphasized that economic growth cannot rely solely on accelerated development. Sustainability must also be considered, one of which is the utilization of renewable energy.

"Therefore, it is crucial for us to immediately have a legal umbrella to accelerate the energy transition process to renewable energy. This can be achieved through the ratification of the New and Renewable Energy Law," he explained.

He further stated that deliberations on the EBT Bill are still ongoing in Commission XII of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), the House's complementary body (AKD) that oversees energy, mineral resources, the environment, and investment.

He also hopes that the ratification of the EBT Bill will not only provide a legal framework, but also serve as a foundation for developing a roadmap for the development of new and renewable energy in the country.

"So that we have more than just an umbrella, but also a definitive roadmap for developing all the renewable energy potential throughout Indonesia, which is very large," he explained.
