inp.polri.go.id - South Lampung. Lampung Regional Police have successfully uncovered an online fraud case involving "love scams" at the Class IIB Kota Bumi Prison, North Lampung Regency, Lampung Province, with total losses reaching IDR 1.4 billion.
Lampung Regional Police Chief Helfi Assegaf confirmed that the case was uncovered after the Sub-Directorate V Cyber Crimes Directorate received information from the Directorate regarding the use of 156 mobile phones belonging to inmates of the Class IIB Kota Bumi Prison for an ITE crime involving "love scams" on April 30, 2026.
The perpetrators created fake social media accounts and claimed to be members of the Indonesian National Police (INP) or the Indonesian Military (TNI).
After establishing a relationship with the female victim, the perpetrator invited her to have a video call and recorded the video.
After their video call, the victim was then contacted by another party claiming to be a member of the military police and began to extort the victim.
The investigation revealed that 137 inmates from the correctional facility were identified as being involved. The total number of victims reached hundreds, with losses estimated at IDR 1.4 billion.
Police confiscated evidence including 156 mobile phones, police uniforms, savings books and ATM cards, six BRIZZI cards, and one SIM card.
Ten accounts from various banks and digital wallets were also found.
The perpetrators were charged under the Electronic Information and Transactions (ITE) Law, Article 407 of the Indonesian Criminal Code concerning pornography, and Article 492 of the Indonesian Criminal Code concerning fraud. The maximum penalty is 10 years in prison and a fine of IDR 1 billion.
