Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. A mild, shallow magnitude 3.5 earthquake rattled Sarmi Regency, Papua, on Friday morning (10/7/2026). The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) announced that the localized tremor occurred at approximately 10.50 am, with its epicenter situated inland to the southwest of the coastal region.
According to the official real-time data bulletin released via BMKG's social media broadcasting channels, the earthquake's coordinates were determined to be at 2.58 South Latitude and 138.76 East Longitude. Automated tracking systems placed the center of the seismic activity roughly 50 kilometers southwest of Sarmi at a shallow depth of 13 kilometers.
"This information prioritizes speed, meaning the results of data processing are not yet fully stable and may change as additional data becomes available," BMKG said in its standard real-time technical disclaimer.
There were no immediate reports from local authorities regarding structural damage or physical injuries resulting from the tremor.
