Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  A magnitude 5.1 earthquake struck Keerom Regency in Papua on early Friday(8/11/2024) at 1:42 am local time.

The Meteorological, Climatological, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) reported the earthquake’s epicenter at coordinates 5.59°S, 154.39°E, approximately 1,534 kilometers southeast of Keerom, at a depth of 108 kilometers.

BMKG emphasized that the data presented is preliminary and subject to change as more information becomes available. 

"This information prioritizes speed, so the data processing results are still unstable and may change as data is completed," it said in its statement, as quoted by antaranews.com..

At the time of reporting, BMKG had not provided further details on the cause or the impact of the earthquake on local communities. 

Local residents are advised to stay calm and refrain from spreading unverified rumors until an official analysis is completed.
