Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian National Police (INP) Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo highlighted that hoaxes and misinformation on social media pose the highest threat during the 2024 Regional Elections.
Speaking at the 2024 National Coordination Meeting for Local Administration in Sentul, West Java, on Thursday (7/11/2024), he stressed the need to anticipate these false narratives, as many people struggle to distinguish between true and false information.
“There is one additional point that should be followed regarding the potential risks on social media. Currently, there are 33 billion social media interactions, 38% of which are positive, 23% neutral, and 29% negative,” Chief Sigit said, as quoted by antaranews.com.
He pointed out that while not everyone can differentiate hoaxes from credible news, such misinformation can trigger reactions, such as sharing, or even lead to actions on the ground. He emphasized that hoaxes could escalate quickly, causing disruption.
Chief Sigit called on local administration leadership, locally known for its abbreviation Forkopimda, to be prepared to address any issues that may arise during the elections, including countering hoaxes.
The National Coordination Meeting was organized by the Ministry of Home Affairs and attended by President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, focusing on the vision of "Astacita Towards Indonesia's Golden 2045".
