Inp.polri.go.id - Trenggalek.A powerful magnitude 6.4 tectonic earthquake struck the southern waters off Pacitan Regency, East Java, in the early hours of Friday (6/2/2026).

The tremor, occurring at 1.10 am, was felt extensively across East Java, including Surabaya, Trenggalek, and Jember, as well as parts of the northern coastal route. The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) located the epicenter at a shallow depth of 10 kilometers, approximately 90 kilometers southeast of Pacitan.

"The information we received from BMKG indicates the earthquake occurred at sea at a shallow depth," said Triadi Atmono, the Chief of the Trenggalek Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), as cite by antaranews.com

Despite the intensity of the shock, which caused residents to flee their homes in panic, BMKG officially confirmed that the event does not have the potential to trigger a tsunami. As of Friday morning, local authorities reported no casualties, injuries, or significant structural damage. Disaster management teams continue to monitor the region for potential aftershocks while urging the public to remain calm and follow official safety protocols.
