Inp.polri.go.id - Makassar. The Criminal Investigation Unit of the Makassar Metropolitan Sub-regional Police managed to arrest three detainees who escaped from Mariso Police Office.
"These detainees sawed through the iron bars of the cell and escaped by jumping over the wall from the police station area," said Makassar Metropolitan Police Chief, Senior Superintendent Mokh. Ngajib, on Sunday (24/3/2024), as reported by antaranews.com.
The detainees, identified as MIA (21), MRA (29), and S (23), fled during the early hours of 11 March 2024, exploiting a moment of quietness at the police office.
Despite their initial success, the escapees were eventually tracked down by the Criminal Investigation Unit officers. The authorities located them at a hideout on Balang Turungan Street in Biringkanaya District, Makassar City, and re-arrested them.
Chief Ngajib emphasized the importance of the investigation, revealing that the detainees confessed to using a saw to cut through the iron bars before jumping over the station's wall.
Mariso Police Chief, Senior Inspector I Wayan Suanda, confirmed ongoing efforts to determine who provided the saw to the detainees.
