Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Maluku Regional Police deployed 150 officers to secure a student protest in front of the Peace Gong, Ambon, on Thursday (18/6/2026).
“About 150 personnel were mobilized. We ensured during roll call that officers must act humanely and carry no firearms,” said Maluku Police Head of Public Relations Senior Superintendent Rositah Umasugi.
The protest, attended by hundreds of students, saw brief tension when demonstrators attempted to burn tires. Police and students argued, but the situation was contained.
Ambon Police Chief Senior Superintendent Yoga Putra Prima Setya explained the incident stemmed from a misunderstanding after firecrackers exploded.
Some officers sustained minor assaults during the protest, but police maintained restraint. The demonstration concluded peacefully, with students dispersing after delivering their demands.
