Medan Court Sentenced 10 Kilogram Meth Courier to Death

Inp.polri.go.id - Medan. The Medan District Court handed down a death sentence to a man for his role as a courier in a case involving the deliveryr of 10 kilograms of methamphetamine.
Chief Judge Donald Penggabean announced the verdict on Tuesday (28/11/2023), stating, "The court sentences the defendant, Indra Ricci Marpaung, to death."
Explaining their decision, Chief Judge Donald emphasized that, based on the case facts, the panel of judges was convinced that the defendant had violated Law No. 35/2009 on Narcotics. Specifically, the charges related to offering for sale, selling, buying, receiving, mediating in the purchase and sale, exchanging, or delivering 10 kilograms of methamphetamine, classified as a Class I narcotic.
"The defendant's actions do not support the government's anti-drug program, and there are no mitigating circumstances," Chief Judge Donald added.
Following the sentencing, the judges granted one week for the defendant, his lawyer, and the prosecutor to either accept or appeal the decision. The verdict aligns with the request of prosecutor Rahmayani Amir Ahmad, seeking the death penalty.
According to the indictment, the police arrested the defendant on 17 April 2023. The defendant confessed to possessing the methamphetamine and disclosed his role in picking up the drugs from Sibolga and delivering them to Tebing Tinggi for an individual named Anju.
