Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Jakarta Metro Jaya Police have uncovered an illegal firearms operation involving the manufacture and online sale of guns, ammunition, and modified airsoft weapons across Greater Jakarta and West Java.
The case was uncovered by the Mobile Criminal Unit of the Criminal Investigation Directorate following a spike in violent crimes involving firearms.
“This investigation started from repeated incidents of violent crime using guns, which prompted us to form a special task force,” said Metro Jaya Criminal Investigation Director Senior Superintendent Iman Imanuddin on Tuesday (20/1/2026), as cited by antaranews.com.
Police arrested five male suspects, identified as RR, IMR, RAR, JS, and SAA, who allegedly assembled, supplied, and sold illegal firearms and ammunition through e-commerce platforms and social media. The arrests took place in Bandung, Sumedang, and surrounding areas between December 2025 and January 2026.
Investigators seized 20 weapons, including 11 firearms, nine airsoft guns used for conversion, and 233 rounds of ammunition. Two additional suspects are still being pursued.
The suspects face charges under Indonesia’s Emergency Law on firearms, carrying a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison.
