Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indonesian tennis player Janice Tjen made history at the Australian Open on Tuesday (20/1/2026)by becoming the first Indonesian woman to win a main-draw match at the tournament since Yayuk Basuki in 1998.
Competing in her Grand Slam debut in Melbourne, Tjen defeated 22nd seed Leylah Fernandez of Canada 6–2, 7–6(1) in one hour and 43 minutes.
“I’m very happy to be part of history and to win here for Indonesia,” she said after the match.
The victory was secured at Melbourne Park, witnessed by her family and Indonesian supporters. Janice dominated the opening set with flawless first-serve points and maintained composure in a tight second-set tiebreak.
This victory follows her breakthrough performance at the 2025 US Open, where she also beat a seeded player. Janice advances to the second round to face former world No.1 Karolina Pliskova, continuing Indonesia’s renewed presence on the Grand Slam stage.
