Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Jakarta Metro Jaya Regional Police foiled potential riots by anarchist groups attempting to infiltrate labor protests at the National Monument (Monas) square and the House of Representatives (DPR) complex during the May Day 2026 commemorations on Friday (1/5/2026).
Senior Superintendent Iman Imanuddin, the Director of General Criminal Investigation, revealed during a press conference that the police intercepted materials for Molotov cocktails, including empty bottles, trigger cloths, and gasoline.
"We also found concrete nails intended to damage barriers. They planned to weaken the concrete fence boundaries while others were distracted by orations, making it easier to topple the barricades when the riot began," he explained, as cited by antaranews.com.
In addition to sabotage tools, police confiscated slingshots and ball bearings, sharp weapons, detailed riot blueprints, including hour-by-hour "rundowns" of when to strike, designated assembly points, and planned escape routes.
The Metro Jaya Police has detained 101 people for questioning. These individuals were caught red-handed with dangerous materials.
Metro Jaya Police Head of Public Relations Senior Superintendent. Budi Hermanto clarified that the detainees are providing information and will be sent home once the investigation is complete.
Despite these threats, he appreciated the cooperation of labor unions and stakeholders, noting that the overall May Day events in Jakarta remained largely safe, orderly, and under control.
