Inp.polri.go.id - Bandung. The West Java Regional Police have arrested several men suspected of staging riots following a riot that marred the International Workers' Day (May Day) 2026 commemorations in Bandung.
The arrests were made late Friday night (1/5/2026) as part of a law enforcement sweep against those involved in widespread vandalism.
"There have been arrests. However, we cannot yet provide details on the identities of those secured, the evidence seized, or their specific actions," said West Java Police Chief Inspector General Rudi Setiawan, as cited by antaranews.com.
He confirmed that the unrest took place in the Tamansari and Cikapayang areas, where public facilities were targeted for destruction and arson.
Investigators have gathered preliminary evidence linking the suspects to the destruction of traffic lights, CCTV cameras, videotron displays, and a police post.
Chief Rudi reiterated that the "black-clad group" responsible for the chaos was not affiliated with legitimate labor unions or the expression of workers' aspirations, describing their actions as purely criminal. The police are currently investigating the group's background and motives behind the targeted destruction.
