Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi is scheduled to deliver Indonesia's statement regarding the Palestine issue at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague, Netherlands, on 23 February 2024.
The ICJ hearing is in response to the issue of Israel's occupation of Palestine and its legal consequences, antaranews.com reported.
"Indonesia supports the UN General Assembly's efforts to obtain an advisory opinion from the ICJ. International law must be upheld," Minister Retno said.
She emphasizes that the Palestinian people's right to self-determination must be respected.
"Israel's occupation of Palestine for over 70 years will not erase the Palestinian people's right to independence," Minister Retno asserted.
The UN General Assembly requested an advisory opinion from the ICJ regarding the legal consequences of Israel's policies and actions in the occupied Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem.
This request was submitted by the General Assembly to the ICJ on 17 January, 2023. In response to this request, Indonesia has committed from the outset to actively participate in providing legal viewpoints to the ICJ.
