Inp.polri.go.id - Tangerang. The Ministry of Transportation increased flight capacity by 2,000 extra flights at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Tangerang, Banten, during the Eid al-Fitr travel period.
"We're offering operators the chance to add 2,000 additional flights. We're committed to giving them the opportunity to expand flight numbers," Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi said on Friday (29/3/2024).
He emphasized that the scheduling of these flights will be coordinated with Angkasa Pura airport operator and AirNav to provide more available time slots at airports than previously, as reported by antaranews.com.
"The additional slots could extend until 8 am or 12 pm, including airports managed by the Ministry of Transportation. AirNav will ensure availability," Minister Budi Karya added.
The Ministry anticipates a surge in travelers during the 2024 Eid al-Fitr holiday, with an estimated 193 million travelers, a significant rise from last year's 120 million.
To manage the influx of passengers, additional airport staff will be stationed in drop-off areas to prevent long queues. Moreover, most check-in counters will be designated as baggage drop-off points, he said.
Minister Budi Karya assured that flight operations are running smoothly, and airport facilities are functioning well, based on ticket bookings made three days before Eid.
In light of this, he advised Angkasa Pura II, the primary operator of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, to add more flight schedules to ensure optimal service for travelers this year.
