Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. An Indonesian Hajj pilgrim from the Jakarta Pondok Gede’s 27 flight group, Muhammad Firdaus, who was previously reported missing, has been found dead in Makkah, Saudi Arabia.
"Based on field reports and coordination with Saudi Arabian authorities, Mr. Muhammad Firdaus was found deceased," said Moh. Hasan Afandi, the Head of the Public Relations Bureau of the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, in Makkah on Friday (22/5/2026), as cited by antaranews.com.
The Indonesian Hajj Organizing Committee (PPIH) expressed deep condolences and confirmed that the government will arrange a proxy Hajj, known as badal haji, for the deceased, which will be performed by a Hajj official.
Hasan also urged pilgrims and officers to look out for one another, especially the elderly and vulnerable. He advised anyone who spots a confused or separated pilgrim to guide them to the nearest service post, emphasizing that Indonesian Hajj officials are fully deployed to protect and assist pilgrims.
