On Wednesday (9/9/2026), the Pemulutan Sector Police, along with a joint team, conducted wildfire mitigation in Ibul Besar III Village, Pemulutan District, Ogan Ilir Regency.
Personnel were deployed to support the Ogan Ilir Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD). The team conducted site inspections and responded to the burned area.
Based on the on-site inspection, the area of the burned area is estimated to be approximately 4 hectares, with approximately 1 hectare already extinguished by officers. The source of the fire remains unknown.
In extinguishing the fire, officers also faced challenges of strong winds, which could accelerate the spread of the fire. These conditions required officers to act quickly and coordinate the extinguishing process.
Thanks to the joint response and cooperation of the joint team, the fire was successfully extinguished. The operation concluded around 1:00 PM, with the fire extinguished and only white smoke remaining at the scene.
Ogan Ilir Sub-regional Police Chief, Superintendent Rizka Aprianti, stated that they, along with relevant stakeholders, continue to intensify mitigation measures and rapid response to every forest and land fire incident.
"We will continue to carry out mitigation and handling of forest and land fires swiftly. Every hotspot monitored will be immediately followed up to prevent the fire from spreading," she said.
Rizka also urged the public to play an active role in preventing forest and land fires, particularly by refraining from burning when clearing or clearing land.
"We urge the public to work together to protect the environment. Avoid burning land, as hot weather and strong winds can cause fires to spread quickly and become difficult to control," she stressed.
