Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.Mount Ibu on Halmahera Island, North Maluku, erupted early Tuesday (6/8/2024), spewing volcanic ash and lava.
The eruption at 2:42 am local time created a volcanic ash column rising one kilometer and lava bursts reaching 100 meters, as reported by antaranews.com.
Geological Agency Chief Muhammad Wafid reported that the ash column was gray and thick, drifting northwest. It marked the 14th eruption of Mount Ibu in the last 24 hours, recorded with a seismograph showing a maximum amplitude of 28 millimeters and lasting one minute and six seconds.
The monitoring station in Tokuoko Village, Tabaru District, West Halmahera, confirmed that the volcano remains at alert level III. The eruption's rumblings were heard at the observation post.
Residents are advised to avoid approaching or climbing Mount Ibu within a four-kilometer radius, extending to five kilometers north of the crater. If ash falls, they are recommended to wear masks and eye protection to avoid respiratory problems.
