Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a travel advisory on Monday (5/8/2024) for Indonesian citizens to postpone travel to Bangladesh because of ongoing security issues following mass protests there.
It also urged those already in Bangladesh to stay vigilant and avoid unnecessary trips outside, according to antaranews.com.
“In light of current safety concerns, Indonesians in Bangladesh should exercise heightened caution,” the Ministry said in a statement.
Travelers should limit their activities to essential ones, avoid large crowds, and stay clear of protest sites. The Ministry encouraged Indonesians to maintain communication with the Indonesian Embassy in Dhaka for emergency updates and instructions.
On 4 August 2024, clashes between police and protesters resulted in at least 73 deaths, including 14 police officers. The protests were responses of a government quota system that allocates 30% of public sector jobs to families of 1971 war veterans. Protesters claim the system fosters discrimination and favoritism towards supporters of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
