Inp.polri.go.id - Padang. The Regional Airport Authority Office VI decided to temporarily suspend operations at Minangkabau International Airport on Thursday (28/3/2024) following the eruption of Mount Marapi in the Agam and Tanah Datar Regencies of West Sumatra.
The Head of the Regional Airport Authority Office VI, Megi H. Helmiadi, said that the airport was temporarily closed from 10:3010.30 am to 2 pm local time.
The temporary closure aimed to address various safety concerns related to flights to and from the airport, prompted by observations of volcanic ash dispersal from Mount Marapi and the issuance of Notice to Airmen (NOTAM).
According to reports from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG), Mount Marapi has been emitting medium to strong-pressure smoke, with plumes reaching heights of 400-1000 meters above the crater.
An eruption with a height of 1000 meters emitting gray smoke was also recorded during this period.
