Inp.polri.go.id - Sorong. The Papuan People's Assembly (MRP), the special autonomy factions from the West Papua Regional People's Representative Council and the Papuan People's Representative Council, has devised strategic recommendations to address the political interests of indigenous Papuans (OAP).
Alfonsus Kambu, Chairman of MRP West Papua Province, revealed on Friday (29/3/2024) that several recommendations emerged following a coordination meeting across six provinces, as reported by antaranews.com. These include advocating for 80 percent indigenous Papuan representation in political party recruitment, harmonizing legal provisions, ensuring indigenous Papuan candidates for political positions, and amending relevant regulations. The recommendations also propose strengthening the duties and rights of the Special Autonomy Faction and the Special Group of the Papuan People's Representative Council. In addition, they suggest forming an MRP association across Papua and a caucus within the People's Representative Council at the provincial and regency levels. The next work meeting is slated after Eid al-Fitr in Jayapura.
