New Zealand Pilot Glen Conning's Body Evacuated to Timika

Inp.polri.go.id - Timika.  The body of Glen Malcolm Conning, a pilot for PT Intan Angkasa, has been evacuated from Alama District in Mimika to RSUD Mimika hospital. 

The operation, led by the Indonesian Military (TNI) Task Force, started at 10 am and concluded with the arrival of the body at Lanud Yohanis Kapiyau Timika Airport at 12.45 pm  local time on Tuesday (6/8/2024), according to Lieutenant General Richard T.H. Tampubolon, the Commander of Joint Regional Defense Command III.

Three helicopters were sent to Alama District for the evacuation, according to antaranews.com..

In addition to the deceased pilot, six survivors were also evacuated, including four healthcare workers— identified as Koraliak Gwijangge, Demianus Pakage, Naomi Kambu, and Hasmaya—and two toddlers identified as Ferni and Hafisan. 

The helicopter, piloted by Glen Malcolm Conning, was en route from Moses Kilangin Timika Airport to Alama District with six passengers. Upon reaching Alama, the helicopter was intercepted by armed criminal group members. The passengers and pilot were forced to leave the helicopter, while the pilot was killed.
