Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  The National Food Agency (NFA) has confirmed that Shine Muscat grapes are safe to consume following rapid pesticide residue tests conducted in collaboration with regional food safety authorities (OKKPD). 

Testing across nearly 100 locations nationwide showed that over 90% of samples were free of harmful residues, while the rest had minimal levels within safety limits, according to antaranews.com.

“The OKKPD’s rapid tests indicate that Shine Muscat grapes currently in circulation meet safety standards,” said Yusra Egayanti, the NFA’s Acting Deputy for Food Safety, on Thursday (31/10/2024).

To ensure thoroughness, samples will also undergo further laboratory testing.

It followed concerns raised in Thailand following excessive pesticide residue in Shine Muscat grapes imported from China.  The green grapes were found to contain pesticide levels above the permissible limit.

In line with food safety guidance, NFA advised consumers to select grapes with distribution permits and wash them thoroughly before eating. NFA also advocates for local fruit consumption, noting local produce offers superior freshness and aligns with Presidential Regulation 81/2024, which encourages diversifying local food sources.
