Inp.polri.go.id - Cianjur. The Cianjur District Court in West Java has sentenced two Nigerians with the initials OBE and CKC to one year in prison and a fine of Rp5 million. Erli Yansah, the spokesperson for the Cianjur District Court, said on Sunday (17/12/2023) that the court had sentenced the two Nigerians for immigration violations, antaranews.com reported. "They both violated immigration laws by not having complete documents and no residence permit, which resulted in a one-year prison sentence and a fine of Rp5 million," he said. However, Erli explained that the they had filed an appeal and the hearing would resume next week to hear their appeal. Meanwhile, Wijay Kumar, the Head of the Cianjur Immigration Office, said his office would continue to monitor the second trial of the two foreigners who have appealed the court's decision. "They have seven days to appeal. If they do not appeal, the decision will be final. After the final decision, if they are unable to pay the fine, an additional month's imprisonment will be imposed," he explained. In addition, Wijay said, both men will be deported to their home country after serving their sentences in the Cianjur prison. The harsh sentences imposed on these Nigerian WNAs serve as a warning to other foreign nationals arriving in Cianjur to obey the law, he said. The two Nigerian men have been detained at the Immigration Office in Cianjur since 11 July 2023 (mg/inp/pr/nm)
