West Sumatera Police Question BKSDA Staff on Mt. Marapi Climbing

The West Sumatra Regional Police have questioned two staff members from the Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) in West Sumatra. regarding their involvement in the Mount Marapi climbing activity that experienced an eruption on Sunday (3/12), resulting in casualties of 23 victims. Police Senior Superintendent Dwi Sulistyawan, Head of West Sumatera Regional Police's Public Relations, confirmed the questioning on Friday (15/12/23), stating, "It is indeed true that two individuals from BKSDA have attended and undergone questioning at the West Sumatra Regional Police." He further noted that the police had also called the Center for Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation (PVMBG) for questioning. However, PVMBG requested a postponement, submitting a letter to the West Sumatra Regional Police scheduled for December 20. "The current focus is on BKSDA and PVBMG. Subsequently, the investigation will be broadened to include survivors (climbers who survived) and other witnesses," he said. (ar/inp/pr/nm)
