Inp.polri.go.id - Tarakan. North Kalimantan Regional Police and Tarakan Police have deployed emergency teams to assist residents following a 4.4-magnitude aftershock that struck the city on Saturday afternoon, marking the eighth tremor since Wednesday.
“Right after the quake, our disaster response unit evacuated patients from Tarakan City Hospital to emergency shelters and patrolled Mamburungan, a landslide-prone area, to ensure residents’ safety,” said Senior Superintendent Sarly Sollu, the Commander of the Mobile Brigade (Brimob) unit, on Sunday (9/11/2025).
Two emergency posts have been set up at the hospital and Mamburungan, where police medical teams provide treatment for the elderly, pregnant women, and children. Police are also helping local authorities secure public areas and collect data on affected residents.
Meteorological Station Chief Muhammad Sulam Khilmi confirmed the quake, which struck at 4.56 pm local time, posed no tsunami risk. Police urged residents to remain cautious and report any structural damage or safety hazards.
