Inp.polri.go.id - Sofifi. The North Maluku Regional Police uncovered an illegal firearms trafficking network in North Halmahera Regency. Operation officers arrested three suspects and confiscated three firearms alongside hundreds of live ammunition rounds.
North Maluku Police Chief Inspector General Arif Budiman confirmed the arrests during a press conference at the North Maluku Police Headquarters on Wednesday (5/8/2026). The suspects were identified by their initials BS (alias UB), ZS, and SC.
"Illegal firearms trafficking is not merely a violation of the law, but a serious threat to national security," Chief Arif said.
Evidence seized by investigators includes one assembled SS1 firearm, one semi-assembled SS2 firearm, one long-barrel SMR firearm, one magazine, and 206 rounds of ammunition across various calibers. Suspects BS and ZS were arrested on 17 July 2026, in Galela and North Tobelo Districts respectively, while suspect SC, previously listed on the wanted list, was arrested at his residence in Igobula Village.
The General Crime Investigation Directorate of the North Maluku Police is continuing its investigation to trace the supply chain, entry points, and network affiliates. Authorities urged the public to report any information regarding illegal weapon possession or smuggling to assist law enforcement.
