The North Sulawesi Regional Police has arrested ten suspects linked to alleged acts of assault and one individual for suspected hate speech following a clash incident in the city of Bitung. "As of now, the Directorate of General Crimes Investigation of North Sulawesi Regional Police has detained ten individuals suspected of being involved in the assaults," said Police Senior Superintendent Iis Kristian, Head of North Sulawesi Regional Police's Public Relations. Additionally, an individual identified as FR, suspected of violating the Electronic Information and Transactions Law (UU ITE), specifically pertaining to hate speech, has been arrested. Investigators seized evidence, including a mobile phone, screenshots of posts containing hate speech, and access to the suspect's social media account. He added that the North Sulawesi Regional Police has coordinated with investigators from the East Kalimantan Regional Police regarding another hate speech suspect with the initials MK. "All suspects, both those involved in assault and hate speech, are currently detained in the detention center of the North Sulawesi Regional Police. Except for the suspect MK, as the case is being handled by East Kalimantan Regional Police," he said. The hate speech suspects face charges under Article 45a paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 28 paragraph (2) of the Law of the Republic of Indonesia number 19 of 2017 concerning amendments to Law number 11 of 2008 concerning Information and Electronic Transactions, with a maximum penalty of six years imprisonment and a fine of up to one billion rupiahs, he concluded.
