Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The North Sumatra Regional Police and the Samosir Regency Government, executed a simultaneous garlic planting initiative in Maduma Village, Simanindo District, Samosir Regency, on Thursday (20/8/2026).
The event forms part of a 17-province national garlic planting movement designed to accelerate domestic garlic production in line with President Prabowo Subianto's Asta Cita food security policy.
Speaking on behalf of North Sumatra Police Chief Inspector General Whisnu Hermawan Februanto, Director of Community Development Senior Superintendent Afriadi announced that the regional program encompasses 10.5 hectares across multiple jurisdictions, including Karo, Simalungun, Dairi, Humbang Hasundutan, Toba, Mandailing Natal, and Samosir regencies.
"This collaborative effort directly supports the President's Asta Cita agenda for food self-sufficiency," he saidi. "Joint harvesting across all 10.5 hectares is scheduled for November 2026."
Samosir Food Security, Agriculture, and Fisheries Agency Head Tumiur Gultom added that the local administration allocated local budget funds for liquid and solid organic fertilizers, field tractors, and academic support from regional universities. Under the program's buyback mechanism, the Ministry of Agriculture will purchase harvested seeds using national budget funds to redistribute to local farmers for sustained multi-year cultivation.
