Inp.polri.go.id - Palembang. The South Sumatra Regional Police has emerged as the second-largest national contributor to the government's national garlic self-sufficiency movement, allocating 81 hectares of land targeting an 810-ton harvest by November 2026.

Led by South Sumatra Regional Police Chief Inspector General Sandi Nugroho, the local planting ceremony took place in Semende Darat Tengah District, Muara Enim Regency, connected via video link to the national headquarters in Sembalun, West Nusa Tenggara.

The nationwide initiative directly addresses Indonesia's high dependence on garlic imports, supporting President Prabowo Subianto’s Asta Cita food security policy.

The South Sumatra Police’s 81-hectare allocation is distributed across five sub-regional police jurisdictions, involving 113 farmers from 14 agricultural collectives  in Muara Enim, Lahat, Pagar Alam, South Ogan Komering Ulu and Empat Lawang.

Nationally, 14 sub-regional police forces cultivated a total of 279.53 hectares with a combined yield potential of 2,795.3 tons. South Sumatra ranks second nationwide in land allocation behind West Nusa Tenggara and ahead of West Java .

Indonesian National Police (INP) General Listyo Sigit Prabowo praised the regional initiative, while South Sumatra Police Head of Public Relations Senior Superintendent Nandang Mu’min Wijaya affirmed that officers will closely monitor crop development through to the November harvest.
